Finding Love

“I want all children to have a stable home and be loved.” These heartfelt words come from Annette, a devoted foster mother in Mpigi District.

Earlier this year, Buwama Police found two children, Christine and Jacob, left alone and malnourished for several days. They needed urgent care and protection. The Probation and Social Welfare Officer, working with Child’s i Foundation, turned to Annette, who had recently completed foster care training and been registered as a foster parent.

Without hesitation, Annette opened her heart and home. “My husband and I found the children in a poor state, so we immediately gave them food and warm clothing,” she recalls.

Drawing on the skills she gained during foster care training, Annette provided psychosocial support and helped Christine and Jacob feel safe again. She also involved her own children in the process, encouraging them to welcome the new arrivals as siblings. At first, it was not easy—different behaviours and backgrounds made blending the families a challenge. But with patience, consistency, and love, Christine and Jacob began to settle and thrive.

Child’s i Foundation supported Annette with regular social worker visits and guidance. Today, Christine and Jacob are enrolled in school, surrounded by care, and are flourishing in a nurturing family environment.

“We are so grateful to Child’s i Foundation for their support, especially with essentials like school fees,” Annette says.
